NATALIE KATES: Scooter where are you from?
SCOOTER LAFORGE: Las Curces, New Mexico.
NK: How long have you lived in New York and what brought you here?
SL: I moved here in 2001. I came here to start my life over again and be anonymous.
NK: How old were you when you realized you wanted to be an artist?
SL: Three years old.
NK: What was the first museum you visited?
SL: My family went to the Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. I loved it there, and wanted to move in.
NK: Did you go to art school and if yes which one?
SL: I went to the University of Arizona. Then, I studied at Cooper Union.
NK: Your paintings remind me of fairy tales gone amok. What inspires your imagination to create such vivid works of art?
SL: I LOVE GOLDEN books and any vintage children's book.
NK: Besides painting what other mediums do you create art in?
SL: I do video, photography and sculpture.
NK: You have an easel in your studio, is this how you paint on canvas?
SL: Yes. I usually use an easel, but I do paint on the floor as well.
NK: My first impression of you was that of a stylish New York artist. Your Armani suit was defaced with your paint splatters and your shoes were painted in the color aqua. Do you have any interest in artistic collaborations with the fashion industry? If so, can you elaborate?
SL: I LOVE and LIVE for fashion. I have my own tee shirt line that I sell in New York at Patricia Field's boutique. Also, I collaborate with master designer David Dalrymple on a line called Dalrymple/LaForge. David and I really understand each other’s crazy insane minds. We have a full ladies collection and really great accessories!
NK: Are your tattoos your own art?
SL: Yes, the tattoos are all my drawings.
NK: Are you a day or night person?
SL: Both. I don't sleep.
NK: What’s your favorite part of your body?
SL: My feet.
NK: What are some words that could describe your art?
SL: Sick, sweet, raw, fresh and sexy.
